Root & Branch / The people behind the work

Who We Are

Root & Branch started with two friends who met in a University computing lab in 2010. Years later one asked a simple question that changed everything.

“Have you thought about the emissions from your code?”

The more they looked, the more they found. In 2024, they started Root & Branch to bring about change. With InnovateUK funding they set about reasearching energy measurement of software and proving impact measurement can be native to the product development process.

Working together asa local community.

When Adam and Oli first embarked on this journey together, they put on an event to see if people were interested in this conversation. Green Software Brighton was born. It is now run with other like-minded technologists as a community for people who care about how our digital and natural worlds interact.
